elcome to the National Maritime Heritage Foundation (NMHF),
the official maritime heritage organization of the District of Columbia. NMHF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing lives and inspiring young minds through maritime adventures.

NMHF accomplishes this mission by providing comprehensive community sailing and maritime education programs. These active programs, located in Southwest Washington D.C. are re-connecting people of the Washington metropolitan region to the water and to the martime history of the region. Sailing opportunities are available for adults and youth aboard small boats and our 65 foot schooner, American Spirit. Profits from all our programs will go towards offering underprivileged inner city youth the opportunity to learn to sail.

NMHF offers a number of opportunities to become involved in community sailing and maritime education in DC.

Youth Sailing includes an after-school learn-to-sail program and the National Capitol Racing Team for high school students. Our other youth program, Kids Set Sail, is a summer learn-to-sail camp for youth ages 8-14.
Adult Sailing includes rentals, group sails and sailing lessons with the opportunity to become US Sailing Small Boat Certified. Small boats available includes Flying Scots, Flying Juniors, Lasers and bugs.
The American Spirit is our schooner available for private charter and offers cruises every other Friday Night. Our Schooner can also be used for educational purposes as a learning tool to learn maritime history and the science behind sailing.
