Instructor Training
Want to volunteer instruct for DC Sail? We offer free training sessions so all our instructors are on the same page. They are free and led by our own Duncan Hood - an internationally recognized instructor trainer. The training follows US Sailing instructor curriculum.
Instructor Paperwork
Instructors should be prepared to instruct the lessons that they sign up for. Make sure to review both of these documents carefully so everybody is on the same page. Contact Sarah Meharg if you have any questions about DC Sail's Learn-to-Sail curriculum.

Give Time
Not interested in volunteer instructing? There are many other ways you can help DC Sail!
Outreach
DC Sail and KSS need all the free press we can get. If you are a writer or know people in the journalism field we need articles put into local papers, radio and TV. We’ve already had some coverage and need to continue our media presence.
Advertising
We run an advertising campaign from March through October, most of the groundwork has been done but you should have some PR, design, advertising or marketing experience. Our advertising is pretty low budget but creativity has gotten us pretty far!
Event Coordinators
Every month DC Sail hosts a lecture series and brings in a community leader or sailing expert, you would contact local leaders and organize speakers for these events. They are usually casual talks over a barbeque. Another group within the event coordinators will organize Open Houses, opening and closing parties and any other events that come up, generally involves organizing volunteers into various food groups and party tactical teams.
Fundraiser / Membership
Membership numbers are the backbone of any community organization. We need to keep the members who are signed up, and increase our membership at the same time. You will be involved in contacting members to ask them to renew as well as starting membership campaigns to bring in some fresh blood. The fundraisers will coordinate with the membership volunteers to host events and come up with cost efficient methods of fundraising for DC Sail and KSS.
Maintenance/Work Days
Boats always need work. We have volunteer days on the weekend about once a month. Send us an email if you're interested, and we'll get in touch when the time comes.Tools and supplies provided, time and skill is what we need.
Dock Coordinators
DC Sail is organizing itself to be self-managing. We need volunteers to keep the doors open and check that people have paid, been checked off on basic skills, and volunteer instructors have signed up and shown up.

Benefits
Basic Members who donate six hours or more a month will gain DC Sail Super-Member privileges for the next four weeks! Super members get unlimited boat rentals for FREE and get big discounts on lessons. |
