Spirit-In-School Education Program

The Spirit-In-School Education Program is a highly successful maritime education program in the Washington, D.C. area. Spirit is a 16-foot tall ship which visits local schools and community events to promote the maritime heritage of Washington, D.C. Over the last three years of the program over 3000 kids in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade have taken part in exciting in school visits with Spirit.

Staffed by a crew of volunteers, dressed in 19th century costume, Spirit-in-Schools allows a hands-on maritime educational experience. Designed as an interactive educational curriculum, the program allows teachers to focus on math, science, physics, geography and history through the vehicle of maritime heritage.
