Why a tall ship for DC?

NMHF’s long term goal is to develop a maritime education center, The Washington Maritime Center, on the Southwest Waterfront to serve as a base for its community sailing and maritime education programs. It will also serve as permanent berth for the NMHF’s schooner American Spirit and for the future national capital tall ship, Spirit of Enterpize, and it will contribute to the redevelopment of this historic section of the nation’s capital.

The Washington Maritime Center will stimulate economic development and cultural community development along the Southwest Waterfront and will present the maritime history of Washington D.C., and the impact of the maritime experience on America.
